Project 1_Salvation_Research Board_ Costume Analysis Breakdown

This collection is inspired from the movie MAD MAX – FURY ROAD, the concept of redemption and salvation were very strong concepts in it by showing it to the body and exploring how much it takes to reject the body so the soul can be redeemed (mortification).

In this board, my concept was Salvation and its inspired from the movie: Mad Max Fury Road 2015 by George Miller and in this board, I researched multiple costumes and characters in the movie and analyzing how the costumes create the image of the character in the details, colors, functionality, materials, textures, accessories, and how the costume created the illusion and back story of each character.

In this board I started to develop my ideas through sketching, collaging, and texturing the sketches using paintings from Renaissance art like Jan Van Eyck the crucifixion and the last judgment, Jordaens, Jacob (Antwerp 1593-1678) - The Last Judgement and The Fall of the Damned, Sinners, by Dieric Bouts and I used it to explore textures and shapes to reflect the idea of Salvation through Damnation.

In this board, I included images of rust dying technique experiments on different materials like Mansouri (Palestinian fabric made from cotton like calico) and different textures, colors, and materials like Organza, Satan, Velvet, Linen, and Denim but I went with the Mansouri cause the effect and texture were more reflective to my ideas and I wanted to experiment with Construction nails that I collected from a house demolished by the Israeli occupation.
